This capital of Kien Giang is a booming port city on the Gulf of Thailand. The population includes significant numbers of both ethnic Chinese and Khmer.
Fishing and agriculture have made the town resonably prosperous. Visitors' main interest in Rach Gia is as an overnight stop on the way to Phu Quoc Island.

Ancient City of Oc Eo
Oc Eo was a major trading city during the 1st to the 6th centuries AD, when this area,( along with the rest of southern Vietnam, much of southern Cambodia and the Malay peninsula), was ruled by the Indian influenced empire of Funan.
Artefacts found at Oc Eo are on display in HCMC at the History and Art museums and in Hanoi at History museum.
